Living Room, Bedroom and Around the Home
☐ Install gates at the top and bottom of all stairs
☐ Cover all sharp furniture edges and corners with bumpers or guards or safety padding
☐ Block all electrical outlets with furniture or use safety plugs
☐ Move all electrical cords behind furniture
☐ Block access to fireplaces and radiators with screens or gates
☐ Install window locks or safety guards on all windows that are accessible to babies. Be mindful some windows might be accessible because of the way furniture is arranged.
☐ Tie up any blind cords that are within baby’s reach
☐ Anchor TVs, bookshelves, dressers and any furniture that can tip
☐ Ensure items like throw blankets, curtains, blinds and home décor are out of reach and cannot be pulled into the crib or playpen
The Kitchen
☐ Latch close any cabinets or drawers within baby’s reach
☐ If stove and oven knobs are located along the front of the appliance, install covers to prevent baby from accidentally turning on the stove or oven
☐ Ensure any small appliances and knife blocks are out of reach
☐ Unplug small appliances when not in use
☐ Leave hot pots and pans on the back burners, if using the front burners, always turn handles toward the back of the stove
The Bathroom
☐ Latch close any cabinets or drawers within baby’s reach
☐ Latch close the toilet cover to prevent drowning
☐ Store any medication out of baby’s reach
☐ Get a non-slip bathmat for the tub and the floor
