When my son Benny was born, I was a first-time mom working full time in a demanding job. I consider myself well-educated, successful and someone who knows what I want…But I found myself overwhelmed with all the things I needed to prepare….and buy. Even more overwhelming was the amount of choice for each product.
The diaper bag was one of those choices. There were messenger bags, totes, duffel bags and backpacks…I found myself asking: why do I even need a diaper bag?? Why couldn’t I just a backpack from my closet? Well, after experimenting with a hand-me-down messenger-style diaper bag from my sister, a regular old backpack and purchasing a backpack-style diaper bag, I realized the importance of a well-designed diaper bag. It really was essential to simplifying my life on the go:
Learning the pitfalls through trial and error
My first messenger-style diaper bag did not have a lot of capacity, so space became a challenge as the weather got colder and Benny got bigger. I started packing a 2nd bag for the blanket and bulkier clothes until I got fed up and used a larger backpack from my closet.
This was not a great solution because I now needed to carry a separate mini-cooler for the milk. Also, there were not enough compartments to separate things like the diaper change pad from the clean clothes and toys. Some of you may think I’m a germaphobe, but after every use in a public washroom, I felt guilty about putting the change pad back in the main compartment with the clean clothes and toys, knowing Benny puts everything in his mouth.
I finally bought a backpack style diaper bag that had insulated pockets for bottles and a separate compartment for my change pad. Unfortunately, we went back to bringing the mini-cooler bag when Benny transitioned to solids as the insulated bottle pockets did not work well for his warm and cold foods.
Unable to find a diaper bag that met my needs, I set out to launch my dream bag through a new business venture with my brother. Benny Bradley’s was founded to make parenting a little easier, by bringing functional baby products to busy parents…And I knew from the start the ultimate diaper bag would be one of the first products we tackled.

Easy Access
